It is home to two educational institutions, Amherst College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The town also includes a numerous amount of shopping and dining options such as independent bookstores, local owned restaurants and cafes, as well as a variety of outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, biking, and skiing.
