Last Day of Fall: Embracing Winter in Western Mass

           

 

It’s December 20th, the official last day of fall, and western Massachusetts is gearing up for winter! Whether you’re into outdoor snowy activities or just want to stay cozy indoors, there is something for everyone here.  

Here are some of our favorite activities to partake in this winter:

Stay Cozy at the Montague Bookmill

Montague, MA

For a relaxing winter afternoon, head over to the Montague Bookmill.  This historic mill turned bookstore is right by the river and offers a cozy spot to enjoy a great book with a warm beverage from their amazing on-site cafe.

Cross-Country Skiing at Northfield Mountain 

Northfield, MA

If you love outdoor activities and the landscapes of winter, Northfield Mountain is perfect for cross-country skiing.  Their trails wind through beautiful forests, and rentals are available if you don’t own your own gear.

Step Back in Time at Historic Deerfield

Deerfield, MA

Winter is the perfect time to check out Historic Deerfield’s Winter Village.  Attend a cooking class with open-hearth demos, check out some beautiful hand-made wreaths on their wreath walk (available until January 2nd), grab a bite to eat at Champney’s Restaurant, and just soak up the charm of this historic town.

Sledding at Look Park

Florence, MA

Grab a sled and head to Look Park for a day of classic winter fun.  The park is perfect for snowball fights and building snowmen.  There is also a Winter Wonderland Lights Display until January 1st.

Shop at the Winter Farmers Markets

Northampton, MA and Greenfield, MA

Yes, the farmers markets are still here! Stop by to grab some fresh produce, homemade baked goods, and unique handmade crafts.  It is a great way to support some of our amazing local businesses.  They are hosted indoors in both Northampton and Greenfield!

Ice Skating at the Mullins Center

Amherst, MA

Whether you’re a great skater or just looking to have fun and maybe take a few tumbles, the ice rink at the Mullins Center is worth a visit.  It’s affordable and a great way to stay active during the colder months.

Snowshoeing at Chapel Brook Falls

If you’re up for a winter hike, head up to Chapel Brook Falls.  The trails are perfect for snowshoeing, and the frozen waterfall is stunning to see in person.
